the kind of gay representation i want from marvel is simple. i want to hear a grindr noise from bucky’s phone while he and sam are staking a place out and sam is like come ON dude
this and the stakeout is in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Bucky pulls out his phone like he’s about to swipe right on Greg-the-Henchman, mostly to fuck with Sam.
Meanwhile, Greg-the-Henchman, showing off this hot match he just made and his buddy Jake-the-Henchman, who is more up to date on the briefings, just “…Is that the winter soldier.’
and there is a single moment. before they both remember that grindr is proximity based.
“Oh FUCK we gotta GO!”Jake Thehenchman: Wait is it just me… or is that the winter soldier
Greg Theotherhenchman: Aw dang it, I’m being catfished?
Jake: Do a reverse google image search
Greg: …I’m not finding it
Jake: Wait
Greg: Wait.
Jake: Is that his actual profile?!
Greg: holy shit, I got swiped on by the Actual Winter Soldier!?! The man hangs out with Captain America and he swiped on me!?!
Jake: He sure did, buddy! Congratulations.
Greg: Wow. The Winter Soldier
Jake: Yeah.
Greg: Crazy.
Jake: Yup. Hey, ask him if Sam Wilson is single for me.
Greg: I’ll do it right now. Hes only 20 feet away–
Jake:
Greg:
Greg & Jake: SHIT!!!!!!

From facebook; mic drop.
So that last line punched me in the face so hard I hit the reblog button. Oh well.
Shout the last part louder. With a megaphone. On every channel.
[transcript]
X-Men is about civil rights. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get X-Men.
Black Panther is about civil rights. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Black Panther.
Captain America literally fought Nazis. He is the embodiment of fighting the alt-right. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Captain America.
The Empire in Star Wars is fascist. The Rebel alliance are Anti-Fascist. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Star Wars.
The Punisher isn’t meant to be a role model for police or armed forces. So much so that the writers of The Punisher made him actively speak out against it in a comic. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get The Punisher.
Deadpool is queer. He’s pansexual. Fact. If you didn’t get that you didn’t get Deadpool.
Star Trek is about equality for all genders, races and sexualities. As early as the mid-60s it was taking a pro-choice stance and defending women’s right to choose. One of its clearest themes is accepting different cultures and appearances and working together for peace. (It’s also anti-capitalist and pro-vegan). If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Star Trek.
Superman and Supergirl (and a whole host of other superheroes) are immigrants. The stance of those comics is pro-immigration and pro-equality and acceptance. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Superman or Supergirl.
Stan Lee said “Racism and bigotry are among the deadliest social ills plaguing the world today.” If you’re bigoted or racist, you didn’t get any of the characters Stan Lee created.
The stories we grew up with all taught us to value other people and cultures and to treasure the differences between us. Only villains were xenophobic, or sexist, or racist, or totalitarian. I can’t understand how anyone can have missed that.
If you’re upset that there’s a black Spider-Man, or a black Captain America, or a female Thor, or that Ms Marvel is Muslim, or that Captain Marvel was pro-feminism, or any of the other things right wing “fans” say is “stealing their childhood” - you never got it in the first place. The things you claim are now “pandering to the lefties” were never on your side to begin with.
If you consider yourself a fan of these things, but you still think the LGBTQ+ community is too “in your face”, or have a problem with Black Lives Matter, or want to “take the country back from immigrants”, then you’re not really a fan at all.
Geek culture isn’t suddenly left wing… it always was. You just grew up to be intolerant. You became the villain in the stories you used to love.
I may have reblogged this before. I don’t care if I have. It’s worth repeating at full volume.

THIS POST!!
I still want a nice IDIC symbol for my front yard somehow but beyond all that, let’s pause and look at that Vulcan salute.

That’s not just “Howdy Friend” in Vulcan.
It’s also a representation of Shin.

Standing for Shaddai or Lord.

The Vulcan hand symbol is the invention of a Jewish actor in reference to an aspect of Jewish religious life.

The invocation of the Lord, Our G-D. And not just ANY invocation either. According to many scholars of Rabbinic literature and the Kabbalism, it is meant to invoke specifically the “fire” aspect of G-D, not to be confused with mortal fire but instead that “fire” that is the flow of divine power into the world, coming from the Feminine Aspect of divine power. It is calling forth the blessings of the Female Divine. Sometimes considered a face of G-D itself, sometimes considered one of the ten emanations of G-D, and sometimes considered the “Daughter of G-D.” Look, it’s religion, you want it clear, delineated, and easy go study quantum mechanics.
But the point is, every time someone raises their hand in that Vulcan salute. They’re not JUST referencing a cool bit of world building. They are calling on a traceable tradition of valuing minority religious heritage, valuing feminine power, as well as the surface declaration for the essential respect for non-violence and a high quality of life. It states unequivocally that all of those points of view are of high merit.

And quite frankly, yeah, if you think violence, patriarchy, racism, the rejection of diversity, and that you should just look out for number one are legitimate points of view, you probably shouldn’t use the Vulcan salute because you’ve missed enough that you don’t know what you’re actually saying.

It’s our responsibility, when we’re in the room, to look around and see who’s missing.
Representation matters.

some of y'all didnt grow up as the person nobody has a crush on and it really shows
some of yall never have to deal with the constant doubt in your own ability to be loved to the point where you get second hand embarrassment at the idea of someone being in love with you and finding you attractive because you’ve been diagnosed with ugly and cringy your whole life and it really shows
some of y’all have never been surrounded by friends who were considered pretty or attractive by peers from an early age and you being the only one who wasn’t profiled this way so it messed up your self-esteem so now you question every time someone says you’re anything other than ugly and it really shows
Some of y'all were never asked out as a dare multiple times by multiple people and if shows.
